The Lark was designed in 1966 by Michael Jackson, designer of many National 12 and Merlin Rockets, with the first one launched in 1967. The hull made of G.R.P. is 4.065 metres in length, and carries a sail area of 9.75 square metres upwind and a spinnaker of 7.4 square metres. The class currently has a Portsmouth Yardstick of 1073, making it one of the fastest non-trapeze dinghies around!
The Class has an active class association, with a very enthusiastic committee. The Class Association consistently strives to provide all Lark Sailors with the very best sailing and social events on the yachting calendar. Over the years the Lark Class has visited such popular venues as Looe, Torquay, Exmouth and Abersoch for the National Championships and even been as far as Carnac, France for the Lark “Europeans”! As well as the National Championship the Lark Class has a very competitive open meeting circuit, with high quality racing everywhere.
The Lark Class is famous for its social events, in particular the National Championships social programme and the annual Laying Down supper held annually at the Winter Championships – an event not too be be missed!
With many new boats now being built (sail numbers over 2530) and a vibrant secondhand market the Lark is clearly a boat to be seen sailing.
