Hydon's take home open at Shustoke

Daniel Watson - 31st March 2012

One of the warmst days on record for March greeted the 16 Lark sailors at the first of the 2012 Midlands double header weekend. The water level was full to the brim with a gentle force 1 to 2 breeze.

The first race proved challenging for the OD as the wind swung through 90 degrees from North to East just before the start. With a reset course race one was started cleanly with the fleet breaking either side of the first leg. Stuart and Nick Hydon managed to round first ahead of Adrian Padro and Hannah Hydon. The second leg saw the fleet close the gap by the leeward as the wind filled from behind. By the end of the first lap the Hydon's had extended their lead with Padro claiming second spot closely pursued by Pete Gray and Rachael Rhodes.

Race two began with Hydon's again managing to round the first mark ahead of Jon Woodwood and Jane Alexander. The Hydon's managed to pull away from a safe second place for Woodward / Alexander leaving the battle for third and Fourth to be fought out between Gray/Rhodes and Padro/Hydon.

Race three saw Padro/Hydon establish an early lead from Smashie Bennett and Nicola Booth. There was a frequent exchange of places with the Hydon's and Gray/Rhodes who had now caught up. Eventually the Hydon's managed to pull through leaving Gray/Rhodes second, Bennett/Booth third and Pradro/Hydon fourth.

The final Results were:
1st Stuart and Nick Hydon Shustoke SC
2nd Pete Gray and Rachael Rhodes Staunton Harold SC
3rd Adrain Padro and Hannah Hydon Shustoke SC
4th Jon Woodward and Jane Alexander South Staffs SC
