Royal Harwich Open Meeting Preview

John Crooks - 17th June 2008

This weekend sees the next round of the Belle Isle being held on the very picturesque River Orwell.

There will be 3 races on the Saturday and two on the Sunday. Saturday’s briefing will be held at 11am followed by the first start at 12:00. The tides are looking good for this years racing and at the moment the forecast is looking like a pleasant force 2-3. Entry for the weekend is £17.

After Racing on the Saturday, Royal Harwich will again have an amazing BBQ and Pimms bar on offer. Together with the fine food and drinks the club’s grassy banks will be hosting another inter fleet challenge, giving the Larks the opportunity to reinforce their superiority over the 12s and fireflies. We saw some fine sumo suit wrestling last year, and are expecting further great performances this year.

After bouncing off the sumo ring, you won’t have to stumble far as there is plenty of camping available at the club. In the morning the galley will be open for the usual bacon, tea and coffee fixes, before racing commences.

For those of you with budding young sailors who are not quite ready to take to sea, there will be some toddler friendly shore activities – probably a teddy bears picnic on Saturday afternoon, or even an interfleet toddlers challenge……Please let Alan Krailing know if you might be joining in with the picnic,(tel – 01473 659 852).

Looking forward to seeing you all down there.
