Frensham Pond Open Meeting Report

Stephen Videlo - 14th April 2008

Competitors arrived at Frensham Pond to be greeted by heavy showers and even hail. The wind died away for a while, leading to a postponed start after the wind eventually filled in half-an hour after the scheduled start, and a reduction from 4 scheduled races to 3.

The first race eventually got under way after a general recall and a re-set course, as the wind settled down. At the first mark Andrew & Matthew Shorrock (2339) rounded in the lead and held this position throughout the race to win convincingly. Tom Jeffcoate & Holly Scott (11) pulled through into second place with Chris Whitehouse & Jane Alexander (2411) finishing third.

After lunch the fleet sailed two races back to back.

In the second race Stephen & Chris Videlo (2491) rounded the first mark first ahead of Matt Stearn & Adam Owens (2444). During the first lap the Videlos caught a gust downwind and opened up a substantial lead which was momentarily overturned by the Shorrocks as the wind died, although the Videlos recovered the lead on the following leg and held on to the finish, with Matt Stearn and Adam Owens finishing third.

In the third race the Videlos just lead from the Shorrocks at the first mark, although in the gustier conditions the Shorrocks found the going a little trickier and could not quite hold on to challenge for the overall lead. In the end Tom Jeffcote and Holly Scott pulled through to second with Nigel Hufton & Ruth Johnson third.

Overall the Videlos had just done enough to secure first place from the Shorrocks, with Tom & Holly's consistency earning them third overall.

The Larks would like to thank all at Frensham Pond for hosting the event, especially those helping on the water in such damp conditions.
