The Larks had a full weekend of sailing at Barnt Green Sailing Club on the 13th & 14th May. The wind gods weren’t kind on Saturday, racing was held in lightest of zephyrs. Steve "Chairman" Cumley fought bravely and defeated all whom stood before him to win the single handed race. The first race of the series was won by Dave Young & Lucy Evans, ahead of Richard Bennett & Kelsey Suggitt. The Challenge trophy was awarded for this race.
The numbers swelled to 22 for Sunday’s racing Nick & David Marlow lead the second race but were eventually forced into second by Sarah Richards & Nigel Wakefield. Bennett & Suggitt sailed well to take third from Tony & Brenda Hotchkiss. In the third race Richards & Wakefield took the lead from Cumley & Jones, and the omnipresent Bennett & Suggitt, and Young & Evans. Going into the last race any of these four boats could have won the event.
Ruth Johnson & Gill Young lead the last race from start to finish. Young & Evans looked beat for overall honours until they became becalmed on a reach. Bennett & Suggitt took over at the front of the chasing pack but couldn’t put enough boats between them and Richards & Wakefield, thus allowing Richards & Wakefield to win the overall event.
The Lark Class would like to thank Barnt Green Sailing Club for their hospitality and organising such professional racing.
