Frensham Five 2006 - Final Day

Chris Ellis - 19th March 2006

A good sunny NE force 3/4 welcomed everyone for the last of the Frensham Five warm up series.

Race 9 - All off the line together for a heavy beat uop the pond. Tom Jeffcoate & Jane Alexander were first round the weather mark followed by Chris Ellis & Nick Butcher. On the first reach Tom decided to test the water temperature, then up the next beat Nigel Hufton & Chris Whitehouse took the lead. Down the next reach Chris managed to get his spinnaker round his plate that meant retirement. Nigel and Tom battled it out to the finsh with Tom eventually winning. Mark Ampleford & Emma Clarke and were third followed by Bob Larder & Nick Hurst.

Race 10 - A long hard beat started the race with Nigel and Chris rounding first from Tom, then Mark, Chris and Bob. The rest of the race was close with everyone concentrating on staying upright in the gusts and when Mark managed to sail over his spinnaker at the drop Chris went into third. These were the positions to the finish.

All agreed that it was a good hard days racing with two tough 70 minute races. As racing was close, avoiding the single mistake and more gym time will help next time.
