Day 1 got underway in a 10-12 knot south westerly. The fleet spent a little while on the water waiting for the breeze to settle down before Race 1 got off to a clean start.
A right shift on the first beat penalised those who had gone out to sea, and Dougal and Helen Scott, returning to Lark Championships after 12 years, led round the first mark. James Goss and Kamila Czartolomna chased in second for the next three laps, never more than a few boat lengths behind. On the penultimate beat Chris and Nicola White came through to second, having had gear problems earlier in the race, and these positions held to the finish of this long, 70 minute race.
Race 2 was a short sprint: just a triangle and finishing at the bottom of the sausage. This time the Whites led at the windward mark, followed by Nigel Hufton and Matt Wood, and Dougal and Helen Scott. As the Scotts and Hufton/Wood had a battle on the second reach, the Whites consolidated their lead. At the bottom of the run the Whites had a comfortable lead, followed by Hufton/White and the Scotts.
