The Season is about to start...

Charlie Roome - 24th March 2013

Well, we survived the ominous 'End of the world' on December 21st 2012, consequently normal life must continue. So get your diaries out and start planning your Lark events for the year of 2013.

We have had some crazy weather this winter, with flash floods and sporadic snow storms, leaving many of us snuggled up under duvets and chilling out in front of the fire, but itís time to harden up and get that sailing spirit on.

To kick start our new year, we have the well established open meetings at South Staffs and Shustoke. These two clubs are a proven success at starting the season off with a bang. So dust off your boats, wash out those wetsuits and get down to South Staffs on the 23rd March to check out your fellow Belle Isle competitors for the year.

Following the kick off of the Belle Isle, why not head to Waldringfield to hone your skills during the annual Easter Egg Trophy? This year we will see the racing start on Good Friday and conclude on Saturday. The River Deben offers great waterside walks and fantastic viewing of the racing, perfect for an Easter family weekend away.

As we enter into April we see the return of the Youth Championships at Frensham Pond. This weekend is for youths looking to try their hand at the ever competitive Lark or perhaps for young crews to give helming a go. The youths comprises of three races on Saturday 20th followed by a prize giving in the evening. Then on Sunday 21st we have the Frensham Belle Isle Open, where we will encourage those who raced in the youths to take part and perhaps challenge some of our established lark sailors. This is a great weekend for new sailors to meet the fleet and a great opportunity for us to discover young, talented sailors.

The start to 2013 looks great and it only gets better with some fabulous sailing locations and great socials planned. So come on down and show your support for the local Sailing Clubs and the Lark Association, get amongst the action and make 2013 a year to remember.
