Lark Masters Championship 2011 and Hayling Open

David Marlow - 26th September 2011

After a hugely successful event in 2009, the Larks will be returning to Hayling Island S.C. over the weekend of 15th/16th October for the Lark Masters Championship 2011.

Open to all helms aged 35 and over on the day of the event, the Larks Masters Championship will tempt back many legends of the lark class. Chris Allen will be looking to defend his masters title but the competition will be stiff. Tim Fells, John Brickwood and Mark Rushall (who will be sailing the Association Ovington Lark) - each multiple champs winners – are all signed up and will trying to prove they’ve still got what it takes. For those not able to recreate the prowess of their youth; the evening Black Tie Dinner and Disco will at least give the opportunity to catch up with old friends and recall past glories.

To encourage the current crop of underage Lark sailors to lend boats, the Masters will be followed by a standard Open meeting on the Sunday.

For both events, 3 races out in Hayling Bay are planned, with the option of racing in Chichester Harbour if the weather doesn’t play ball. First start on Saturday will be at 12:55, whilst the start on Sunday will be at 10:55. More details are covered in on the club website.

Entry for each of the days racing and tickets for the evening social can all be bought separately. So even if you cannot sail – come along for what should be a fantastic social.

For those looking for accommodation; the club has bunk rooms available but these will be filling up fast.

For anyone who would like to attend the event but does not have a boat, please contact Chris Whitehouse (, who will endeavour to fix you up.
