After an excellent sail in ideal conditions at South Staffs the series moved to Shustoke for the next round. Saturday night was spent at a Coleshill Curry house which was a first for one curry virgin (Adam Owens) and some local vindaloo derivative proved too hot to handle for Smashie by the next day.
The conditions were great with a force 3 – 4+ right down the length of the lake and blue sky too!
Race one kicked off with a clean start heading up the full length of lake. Chris Whitehouse /Robinson took an early lead closely followed by Adrian Padro and Hannah Hydon. By lap 2 Stuart Hydon sailing with Ryan Padro had claimed the second spot chasing Chris Whitehouse. On the penultimate lap Hydon took Whitehouse and using local knowledge to its full, Padro stole second place from Whitehouse.
Race two started and there was a bigger pack fighting out the lead with Whitehouse, Padro, Smashie and Nicola, Simon Cox and Adam Owens, John and Sue Billington all exchanging places at the front. It was Jane Alexandra and Rachael Rhodes that took the lead mid race after some blistering up wind performance, although this was later recaptured by Whitehouse who went on to win the race. In meantime Hydon came through after recovering from a poor start to finish second.
With all to play for, the third race proved more difficult to start requiring a black flag to get the next start under-way. On the second start Smashie pushed the line and thinking he had cover, Chris Whitehouse edged up too far too. Both were eventually OCS. Hydon/Padro led the race from start to finish although the wind increased to a steady 4 to 5 catching out a number of crews particularly on the tight reaches and gybes. Simon Cox / Adam Owens and John & Sue Billington featured strongly.
