Frensham Five 2010 - Race 7 & 8
Races 7&8 of the 2010 Frensham 5 took place on 28 February
With a forecast of 30 knts the day before, competitors were surprised to find a mellow Force 2-3 with even some warmth in it, when they arrived.
Another Frensham trademark downwind start saw Mark Ampleford again being premature in Race 7 and having to return with new crew Ellie Draper. Nigel Hufton & Kirsty Phipps won the windward end of the line, but it was Chris Ellis & Ed Smith who led at the first mark, never to be passed.
In Race 8, Chris Ellis again won – Nigel Hufton having to sit out due to lack of crew – but behind him a close tussle ensued, with Steve Chatten & Kirsty coming second followed by Phil Whitney and daughter Linda.
With 7 races sailed, 3 boats have qualified and Chris Ellis has already sewn up the series. However, 3 boats could still come second. Races 9&10 will be on 21st March, with the postponed Race 6 probably being sailed in April. In the meantime the Frensham Frenzy will be the next Lark battle at Frensham, on 14 March.
