In preparation for the nationals at Bridlington SC eight Larks travelled up to Filey to join in the annual regatta. The unstable weather made race organisation difficult, however the race team did a remarkable job and managed to get in 3 races over the two days.
Competing on a P shaped course and sharing the start line with 11 Lasers meant that it was crucial to get a clear start and good first beat. Steve Cumley and Eluned Jones won both of Saturdays racing after overtaking James Ward and Katie Haighton in the first race and Steve Hall and Simon Haighton in the second race. Dave Young and Nicola Attwood continued their recent good form to count a second and third for the day.
On Sunday the large swell and light breeze made starting tricky. After 2 general recalls the third race finally got away. Two boats, Nick and Joanna Marlow and Richard Adams and Paul Noble, found the go button and disappeared into an unassailable lead. Cumley and Jones clawed their way back from a poor start to finish third and take the event with a race to spare.
The fleet were then sent in for lunch, and after a short postponement the race team decided that there was insufficient wind to complete the final race. The Lark Class would like to thank Filey SC for organising an excellent event and would thoroughly recommend the regatta for a great weekend away.
