The 14th round of the Lark Belle Isle travellers series was held at Royal Lymington YC. The tide and oscillating breeze made for tricky conditions, however the closeness of the racing was tantamount to the quality of the courses and the even standard amongst the Lark fleet.
There were 5 different race winners from 6 races. Steve Hall and Simon Haighton started the event well by winning the first race but were then unlucky as a freak breakage ruled them out for the rest of the day. Chris and Anne Biglin also had a good start to the event sailing consistently in the first two races and winning the third.
The races on Sunday were just as closely fought with Steve Cumley and Eluned Jones taking the gun in the 4th race, Dave Young and Amy Finney winning the 5th and James Stewart and Ruth Johnson taking the gun in the final race. Consistency in these conditions was clearly going to be rewarded and 5 results in the top 3 was plenty sufficient for Steve Cumley and Eluned Jones to win the event.
Things are really hotting up in the Belle Isle series. With 3 events left to sail there is only 1 point separating the top 2 in the gold and silver divisions and only 2 points separating the top 2 in the bronze division. The really exciting thing is that there are still lots of other boats that can come into the frame in all three divisions so predicting the outcome at this stage is still impossible.
Our thanks go to Royal Lymington YC for organising a fantastic weekend and to P&B, Speed Sails and Pedrollo for sponsoring the Lark Belle Isle Travellers Circuit.
