24 Hour Race Preview

Simon Cox - 13th August 2007

The Lark Class returns to Southport for the 41st West Lancashire YC 24 Hour Race over the weekend of 15th/16th September 2007.

This is the eighth time that the Lark has raced in the event, along with GP14's and Enterprise's. As regulars to the race will tell you the event is enormous fun with a fantastic party atmosphere. But the racing is also very serious. There's nothing quite like cheering on your team mates at 2AM in a howling gale or the exciting crew changeovers!

The Lark Class Owners Association will be entering atleast one teams with a view to retaining the winners trophy from the 2006 race.

We have word from South Staffs SC that they will be entering a team to try and improve on last years impressive 3rd place overall.

Even more amazing is that Manchester and Lancaster Universities have already entered their Larks for the event. What is going on with Students these days?!

As an added incentive to enter a Lark in this years event the organising club has a Free Entry draw sponsored by our class builders, Rondar Raceboats. You must first enter (and pay) and the draw will made straight after the team captains briefing where they will give one team their entry fee back. As the club says, You need to be in it - to win it!

If you are interested in entering a team this year then please visit the official 24 Hour Race website or for specific advice relating to sailing a Lark in the race please contact Simon Cox on 07769 700462 or chairman@larkclass.org.
