Weymouth SC hosted the 9th round of the Belle Isle travellers series on 2nd and 3rd June. 20 teams travelled south to find sunshine but generally light and fickle winds. The open meeting was held alongside the Weymouth Dinghy regatta, and with over 100 boats on the same race course there was plenty for everybody to think about.
3 races were held in the bay on Saturday. Steve Cumley and Eluned Jones quickly worked out that hard right up the beats was paying and posted two wins and a third. Also on form Emma Harris and Becky Priest demonstrated their impressive ability to pick their way through the fleet picking up a 4th, 2nd and a 1st.
With lighter winds forecast for Sunday the usual fun and frolics were had in the bar. Toby Tastic Lewis’s turned 24 and in true form had a huge night. Toby seems determined to help Pete Vincent fill his website with funny stories and managed to keep up the good work this weekend.
The racing on Sunday was held in Portland Harbour. Only one race could be held before the wind died completely and this was won by Jonathan Lewis and Tessa Nicholls.
Our thanks go to Pedrollo, Pinnell & Bax and Speed Sails for sponsoring the Lark Belle Isle Travellers Circuit and to all of the many volunteers from Weymouth SC, Castle Cove SC and the Academy for organising a great weekend.
