The Silver Fleet made a good showing out of the 68 souls racing on Saturday and were greeted with a chilly wind shifting all over the place.
Matt Stearn & Adam Owens made the long trip from Waldringfield and made the most of the conditions to gain two top ten finishes to leave them top of the Silver Fleet for the day. Chris & Anne Biglin got the better of them in race 3 finishing 5th to get to within a point of Matt and Adam overall, showing they still have the touch that helped them lift the trophy a few years ago. Stuart & Julia Allen improved as the day went on but could not get close to the top two teams finishing 10 points behind the Biglins.
Local Lark aficionado Tony Hotchkiss & crew Lara White did their best to upset the top three but although the two counting results were in the top half of the fleet they could not quite catch Team Allen. Our ex-chairman Nigel Scott found himself a local lass, Seonaid Fleming, as crew to try to get the upper hand, however, having not been in a boat since last July meant he had to settle two points behind Tony. However, I’m sure that after a few more hours in the boat this year he will be up to speed in no time, as he was showing signs good boat speed all day.
Thanks to South Staffs and Muc-Off who presented Matt and Adam with the goodies, and to the whole of the South Staffs work force for getting the clubhouse ‘ready’ to hold the meeting.
