18 Larks arrived, for the final event of the Belle Isle Series, at Shustoke faced with rain, squalls and the wind coming over the clubhouse.
Away first time, Jonathan Lewis and Milly Parsons led with Steve Cumley and Eluned Jones rounding a close second but with Chris Ellis and Kathryn Young snapping at their heels. As the kites were hoisted a 20 degree windshift turned the course into a reaching procession resulting in the places remaining unchanged to the finish.
Race two allowed the race officer to set a beat the length of the lake, Lewis/Parsons showed good starting technique to again lead at the first mark with Ellis/Young 3 boat lengths behind and Cumley/Jones rounding 3rd. Lewis/Parsons pulled away in the dropping breeze, but behind a tussle ensued with Stuart Hydon/ Hannah Showell and David Marlow/Ben Biglin joining in the fun. Cumley/Jones showed good speed to secure 2nd with Marlow/Biglin coming home 3rd.
Lunch was taken to allow competitors to dry out before launching in a dying breeze. With the winner already decided the battle was on for 2nd resulting in the first recall of the day. Cumley/Jones held their nerve to lead and eventually shake off the attention of John Billington/Sue Mellor who took second and secured 3rd overall, Hydon/Showell showed local knowledge to finish third chased hard by Marlow/Biglin which meant they beat them on count back overall.
Thanks to Shustoke Sailing Club for hosting a great event and allowing the Lark Class Association to hold a training day on the Saturday.
